Why is my Night Shift automatically Unassigned when followed by Annual Leave?
Scenario:
You booked a night shift on September 1st and requested annual leave from September 2nd to 5th. Your manager approved the leave, but now you see that your night shift on September 1st has been automatically unassigned. Why did this happen?
Reason:
The system automatically unassigns a shift if it overlaps with a booked holiday. This occurs because when you request annual leave, the default settings in the system assume the absence starts at midnight (00:00) on the first day of leave and ends at 23:59 on the last day.
In your case:
- Night Shift: September 1st (19:45) to September 2nd (08:00).
- Annual Leave: Starts at 00:00 on September 2nd.
Since your shift extends into the start of your annual leave, the system identifies this as an overlap and unassigns your shift.
How to Fix This:
For Nurses:
- Go to My Absences > My Absence Details.
- Select the correct date of your leave.
- Click on Actions > Edit Request.
- Manually change the start time of your leave to any time after 08:00 AM on September 2nd to ensure there is no overlap with your night shift.
- Inform your manager that the shift is now unassigned.
For Ward Managers:
